A year in the life of the Best Password Manager for Android

Hello again friends! 👋

When I last wrote about 1Password for Android, we had just released version 6.4 with support for Android 7.0 and all of its Nougat-y goodness. We’ve been hard at work since then, but before I tell you about some of the great changes we’ve introduced in version 6.5, I want to take a moment to celebrate.

android-central-1I’m incredibly proud to say that we’ve been awarded “Best Password Manager” by Android Central! While we naturally think that 1Password is the best, it’s always fantastic to have a great site like Android Central back us up with their recommendation. And the timing couldn’t have been better as we were also celebrating a birthday last month… 1Password 6 for Android just turned one!

So come with us on a journey as we celebrate 1Password 6 for Android’s birthday, and look back on a year of Googly wonder!

Birthday beginnings 🎂

Let’s start with the release of 1Password 6. This was a huge release that restyled our pixels with Material Design, made unlocking your vaults quick and easy with Fingerprint Unlock, and introduced support for 1Password memberships.

In the months that followed, we released 4 major updates to 1Password 6. These updates made search available from first launch, added All Vaults to allow you to view all of your items at once, and made it easier to type passwords into other devices with Large Type. We also made 1Password more convenient to use alongside other apps by adding support for Nougat’s split-screen mode.

All of these changes were focused on making it more convenient for you to stay secure with 1Password. Features like Fingerprint Unlock and Universal Search are all about getting you to the data you need quickly. 1Password memberships make your data available whenever and wherever you need it with instant sync and web-based access through 1Password.com.features

Speaking of 1Password memberships, I want to take a moment to celebrate another birthday. Not only did we release 1Password 6 for Android last February, but we also launched 1Password Families.

Enjoying Families with family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

As you might imagine, I’m the resident password guru and all-around IT guy for my family. While I would never complain that it’s a burdensome job, anything that makes it easier to manage devices and accounts for Juliana and the kids is a big win for me. So when we launched 1Password Families a year ago, it was a no-brainer for me to switch us over. In the time since, my role in family tech support has gotten so much easier…

convenience-updatesSetting up 1Password on all our devices. Our house is littered with devices spanning the Android, iOS, and Mac platforms. Setting up each one is now as simple as installing 1Password, scanning an Account Code, and entering the Master Password.

Making passwords easy! No one in my family needs to think too hard about creating strong unique passwords. Instead, we simply use the strong password generator in 1Password to create a new password for each new account we create. No re-using passwords and no arcane rules or formulas to follow.

securely-shareStoring more than passwords. We also use 1Password to store everything from credit cards to passports to locker combinations. Anything that should be kept secret, yet be available whenever and wherever we need it, goes in 1Password.

Sharing with the right people. There are some items that I only want to share with Juliana and other items that I want the kids to have access to as well. 1Password makes it easy for me to organize our items into multiple vaults and share those vaults appropriately.

Recovery Time Machine

Restoring previous versions of items. I no longer need to worry that an item will be accidentally changed or deleted. If that ever did happen, the new Item History feature will help me get it back. All I need to do is log in on 1Password.com and restore the version of the item back the way it was.

As you can see, 1Password Families adds up to a lot of peace of mind for everyone and makes my IT role in my family much easier! And now that I’ve gone on about how our 1Password membership has made managing my digital life easier, I’m eager to help you do the same.

The best gets better! 🎉

In version 6.5, we’ve made it easier than ever to get started with 1Password and get straight to what matters – keeping your personal information safe and secure.

If you’re a current 1Password customer but haven’t started your 1Password membership yet, you really should check it out. We’ve made it super easy to move your items over, so you can experience the best way to use 1Password.

You can sign up for a new individual account in Settings > 1Password accounts and then migrate your existing data in with the new ability to copy items.

And if you’ve never used 1Password before, you can sign up for a new individual 1Password membership and start your free 30-day trial right from first launch. Start with something for yourself and then when you’re ready, invite family members or team members to join you.

Wowzas! what a year! 🕑

We’ve got even more new features and improvements planned for the year ahead, and I look forward to sharing more about these with you soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the best version of the Best Password Manager for Android yet!

P.S. Here’s Paddy chilling on the beach after winning the Best Password Manager for Android. Our developers weren’t invited as she has us working on the next update already. She’s a tough project manager, but the results speak for themselves 🙂

2014 Top 100 Emails - Campaign Monitor

We sent one of the top 100 emails of 2014!

One of the things we love most about this job is talking to you, our customers. We’re on the Twitters and Facebooks, but we also love making and designing the occasional email newsletter for our one million subscribers. Apparently we’re doing something right, too, because our newsletter service, Campaign Monitor, just announced that we sent one of the Top 100 Emails of 2014!

To be specific, our Heartbleed newsletter was quite popular, hopefully because we helped explain what was going on and, of course, whether 1Password was affected (spoiler: it wasn’t). If you scroll to the bottom of our entry there, you’ll see Campaign Monitor gave us good marks for knowing how to balance our design and message, as well as founder (and Chief Newsletter Writer) Dave Teare’s personal touch.

We send just a handful of newsletters per year. Sometimes we even include goodies, such as a free copy of The Email Field Guide by David Sparks in our Thanksgiving newsletter last month.

In fact, Dave’s preparing our Christmas newsletter as you read this, and I hear it will include a gift. If you have yet to experience an AgileBits newsletter, right now is, quite literally, the perfect time to subscribe and get a party in your inbox!

Thanks to Campaign Monitor for the kind words, and thanks to everyone for subscribing!

iMore Best 2014 Awards

iMore names 1Password 5 for iOS an App of the Year for 2014!

It isn’t every day that we have a chance at winning a best-of-the-year award from iMore. In fact, I am told that the opportunity comes only once a year.

And this year we won!

We are thrilled and thankful and just plain touched that iMore named 1Password 5 as the iOS Utility App of the Year for 2014, and 1Password 5 for Mac as a runner-up for Mac Utility App of the Year!

iMore reviewed and listed a ton of stuff for its awards this year, from apps to accessories for both iOS and the Mac. It’s a great list from a bunch of smart folks, so be sure to give the entire thing a look!

Apple lists 1Password among the App Store Best of 2014

App_Store_Best_of_2014

We are amazed, humbled, and absolutely thrilled that Apple has listed 1Password among the App Store Best of 2014 for iPhone and iPad!

We’re listed alongside some incredible peers, too, from Storehouse to Xcom: Enemy Within, Litely to NYT Now. Apple sure does know how to pick ’em.

We are especially honored since v5 was both a major feature release and a huge step in taking 1Password for iOS freemium. We added some of our best features ever—like Touch ID and App Extension support for other apps— and we made 1Password 5 for iOS free to start using for new customers. Now, everyone can enjoy 1Password’s security and convenience, then unlock their full potential with a single, one-time in-app purchase.

We might be biased, but we agree that makes 1Password worthy of a Best App of 2014 spot. Thanks to you, our customers, for getting us here!

Where’s Eddy?

You may remember that AgileBits won a Macworld Eddy Award in 2013 for 1Password 4 for Mac (We were a little bit excited about it). 1Password 4 has been a labour of love for the entire team, from developers to support, and it was a true honour to be singled out for such a prestigious award.

Well, because the powers-that-be at AgileBits are pretty awesome, they decided to share the honour. So, not only is there a shiny new Eddy from 2013 sitting next to his friend from 2010 on our office shelf, but Eddy is also gracing the shelves and homes of every AgileBits employee! I was completely blown away by this generosity, and it got me thinking: how were the rest of the AgileBits team celebrating the arrival of this shiny award?

As it turns out, there’s some excitement, a little bit of weirdness, and a whole lot of smiles. Check out some of our photos here and give us a like on Facebook to check out the full gallery!

MAS best of 2013

1Password is a Mac App Store Best of 2013, so let’s have a saleabration!

MAS best of 2013

It’s only Tuesday, but I think it’s safe to say this is already one of our Best Weeks of 2013.

Yesterday we woke up to the wonderful news that Macworld gave us a 2013 Editors’ Choice Award, and this morning Apple says 1Password is one of the Best Apps of 2013!

To celebrate such wonderful presents, we spiked some eggnog, then we spiked our 1Password for Mac price by 30 percent so everyone can enjoy simple, convenient security over the holidays.

If you’ve had your eye on 1Password for Mac or it would make a great gift for someone, now is the perfect time. The sale ends with 2013.

1Password 4 for Mac wins a 2013 Macworld Eddy

Macworld_EddyWe could hardly believe our Twitter and Facebook followers this morning, but there it is, plain as day: 1Password 4 for Mac won a 2013 Macworld Eddy!

The fine folks at Macworld say “1Password offers the best combination of convenience and security that we’ve seen.” We may be just a teeny bit biased, but we’re inclined to agree. This is also perfect timing, since we’ve been talking about our plans for Macworld/iWorld 2014.

We’d like to thank everyone at Macworld for this award, and every single one of our customers for helping us get where we are. 1Password wouldn’t be what it is today without our customers, and we’ll never forget it.

1Password 4 earns Mac App Store Editors’ Choice Award

Mac App Store 1P featured

Thank you, Apple. Thank you, all our incredible customers. We were delighted to launch 1Password 4 for Mac today, and now we’re thrilled to find we’re featured front ‘n center in the Mac App Store.

Thank you. We couldn’t have gotten here without you.

1Password for Mac wins About.com Readers’ Choice Award!

About.com Reader's Choice 2013 award

We couldn’t have done this without you—literally! After all, this is a reader’s choice award, and we only won because of you!

Thanks to your votes, 1Password for Mac won About.com’s Reader’s Choice Award for 2013 in the Best Mac System Utility category. We were up against some great competition, but in the end, the people have spoken.

Thanks again to everyone who voted, and don’t worry, we won’t let it go to our head. We have plenty of reasons on the way in 1Password 4 to earn your vote in the next contest.

1Password for iOS wins an Editor’s Choice Award from The Mac Observer!

Hooray, a TMO Editor's Choice award!

Hooray, a TMO Editor’s Choice award!

We’re having a great time at Macworld/iWorld 2013 in San Francisco right now meeting customers and fellow developers face-to-face.

While we thought we had our booth all set up for the duration of the expo, I guess The Mac Observer disagreed. Yesterday, the fine folks over there made a significant contribution to our booth’s overall vibe by honoring us with a Editor’s Choice Award for 1Password for iOS!

We’re thrilled to earn this award this year and, as you can see in our photo gallery, we’re displaying it with pride. If you haven’t stopped by yet, I’m having a hard time understanding why. Besides today (Saturday, February 2) being the last day of the expo, you have the greater facts to contend with that you’re awesome, we’re told we’re awesome, and awesome people are simply bound for each other, so come say hi!
